A former Bristol City footballer has died after he was stabbed to death outside of a restaurant in Bermuda.

Osagi Bascome, 23, had been attending a party on St David’s Island where the incident occurred, but despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Bascome sadly passed away, with an investigation now underway to investigate the crime.

Speaking at the scene of the crime, detective chief inspector Peter Stableford urged anyone with information to get in contact.

He said: “We need to hear from anyone who was at the party but right now persons who were there are not talking to us.

“We know that people saw what happened and we would urge them to do the right thing by Osagi and tell us.”

A police spokesperson also provided further details of the incident: “Officers were at King Edward Memorial Hospital in connection with another matter.

“When they were alerted to the victim who was brought into the Emergency Department in a non-responsive state, with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds.

“The victim was transported to hospital via private vehicle.”

Since the appeal was first made, the Royal Gazette has confirmed that a 24-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the incident, with Stableford thanking those who had already come forward with information.

He said: “That information has allowed the investigation to progress, resulting in this arrest.”

“We are aware there are individuals who accompanied Osagi to that party at Fun Zone who, for whatever reason, are refusing to speak with us.

“Their unwillingness to co-operate with police is worrying.

“We urge those individuals to reconsider their position and help provide justice and closure to Osagi’s family.”

During his career, Bascome spent time at both Bristol City and Darlington and also had brief spells playing football in Spain. He was also a Bermuda international, and played for the country in their major tournament debut in the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup, featuring in all three matches before being eliminated in third place.
