Facebook are finally giving us the one thing we’ve all been demanding for years

Like!

Sometimes, a ‘like’ just isn’t enough.

Spend long enough on the Internet and you’ll realise it can be a negative and somewhat unforgiving place and it seems as if the biggest online player of them all has decided to join in on the ‘fun’.

A ‘dislike’ button to go along with Facebook’s iconic ‘like’ button has been mooted for years and, according to CNBC, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg admitted at a recent Q and A that it’s finally going to happen.

“I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years. Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it,” Zuckerberg said.

Zuckerberg had previously resisted calls for a dislike button on Facebook because he didn’t want to turn it “into a forum where people are voting up or down on people’s posts” but the change of heart is based on a desire to allow Facebook users to “express empathy” where necessary.

“What they really want is the ability to express empathy,” he added.

“Not every moment is a good moment.”

Zuckerberg admitted that the dislike button is proving “surprisingly complicated” to create; we can assure him that plenty of Internet folk will find no complications in their rush to click it quickly and often when it does eventually arrive.
