Exact date 31 degree heatwave set to leave UK scorching

Charlie Herbert

Things could get pretty sticky

Parts of the UK could be set for a scorching heatwave with temperatures potentially rising up above 30 degrees.

According to weather predictors Ventusky, a huge wave of hot weather is set to hit south east England this weekend before moving up to the Midlands and across to Wales.

The Mirror reports that in the London area, this could see the mercury hit 31C by Monday (August 12), which is far too hot if you ask me.

In the home counties, the mercury will be hovering around 29C, whilst places like Northampton, Norwich and Cambridge will see temperatures in the high twenties.

As is usually the case with hot weather in this country though, that pesky humidity is likely to make things pretty sticky.

Along the Kent coast, humidity is apparently set to be at an unpleasant 70 per cent, and similar levels can be expected on the Essex and Suffolk coasts.

London, the home counties and the Midlands can expect humidity around 50 per cent.

If you’re in the north though, you’re likely to avoid all of this hot sticky weather though, which may be good news to some of you.

The Met Office predicts a “marked contrast” between the weather in the northwest and the southeast.

Their long range forecast for the 11-20 August reads: “The far northwest will likely remain fairly cool with sunny spells and a few showers, whereas fairly hot (perhaps very hot) conditions could develop across the southeastern half of the UK, with a chance of thunderstorms.

“In between there will likely be a zone of cloudier conditions that will meander north and south, and there will likely be some heavy pulses of rain running along this.

“Towards the middle of next week more changeable conditions are likely to push eastward from the Atlantic, displacing any hot air away from theUK, with the main focus then being on cooler temperatures, spells or rain and showers, and some unseasonably strong winds.”
