We stan a legend

Egg Boy, also known by his real name of Will Connolly, has become a worldwide hero for his act of bravery in the aftermath of the Christchurch terror attacks in New Zealand.

Immediately after the attack that claimed 50 lives, Australian senator Fraser Anning posted a flurry of tweets and issued a statement pointing the finger at muslim immigration for causing such an attack, in which the victims were muslims peacefully praying at their local mosques.

Anning came under severe criticism for his comments on social media, but one critic went above and beyond, hitting Anning with an egg on live TV. He went on to be known to the world as Egg Boy, but it turns out he had this nickname before his act of heroism.

In an interview on Australian TV show The Project, Connolly spoke publicly for the first time since the incident.

“I understand what I did was not the right thing to do,” he said.

“However, this egg has united people and, you know, money has been raised, tens of thousands of dollars have been raised for those victims.”

A GoFundMe to raise money for any legal fees Connolly may incur and to buy “more eggs” was set up shortly after the egging incident. The page has raised almost to $80,000, which the 17-year-old will donate to the victims of the terror attack.

“I’ve had one lady reach out to one of my friends in Christchurch and she said to me that throughout this period of darkness in her life was the one time since she smiled since the tragedy and that, I’m speechless,” Connolly said.

Asked whether he actually likes eggs, Connolly explained that: “funnily enough, I was actually called egg boy before this happened. As I’d eat boiled eggs at lunch and all the girls would be like, ‘get away from me that reeks’.

He then confirmed that he is “officially off the eggs now.”

Connolly also posted a statement on Instagram thanking everyone for the support they have shown him since the egging incident.

“I’m so proud to stand for what is right and I encourage everyone to stand up for what you all believe in. I do not condone violence and I do not condone egging someone, and everyone has a right to an opinion, but as I listened to Senator Anning for over an hour, I realised a point had to be made and if no one was going to do anything, then I was,” he wrote.
