DUP MP planned to ‘steal the mace from the Commons chamber’ to push through Brexit

This is the point we’ve reached

A Democratic Unionist Party MP reportedly planned on stealing the mace from the House of Commons in a bid to push Brexit through on March 29.

The unnamed MP is said to have reached out to the pro-Brexit European Research Group (ERG) and suggested stealing the mace, which – under arcane rules – must be in the House of Commons for MPs to sit.

The United Kingdom triggered Article 50 on March 29, 2018, making March 29, 2019 the date upon which they were originally intended to leave the European Union.

However, an inability to agree the terms for a Withdrawal Agreement has left the process in stasis.

This gridlock has frustrated hardline Brexiteers who view the completion of Brexit necessary at all costs, even to the point of stealing a magical mace that needs to be around for some reason.

Their plan was thwarted though when, shock horror, they didn’t know where the mace was kept overnight. So instead they did nothing.

While this may have achieved sweet fuck all, it is at least reassuring to get a window inside the truly great minds leading the UK into one of its most important post-war decisions.
