Congressman calls for the impeachment of Donald Trump with incredibly passionate speech

Paul Moore

“The president is not above the law. It’s time for the American people to weigh in.”

A U.S. congressman has called for the impeachment of Donald Trump, accusing the US president of obstruction of justice.

The passionate plea of Texas Representative Al Green follows the New York Times’ recent report that Trump had asked former FBI director James Comey to drop an investigation into his former national security adviser, Michael Flynn.

In the aftermath, the White House denied the report but it was subsequently confirmed by other media outlets.

Elsewhere, The Washington Post have also reported that Trump has divulged highly classified material to Russian diplomats in a meeting last week.

Trump took to Twitter to discuss that particular report.

While speaking to the House, congressman Green used the opportunity to call for the impeachment of Donald Trump.

‘I rise today with a sense of responsibility and duty to the people who have elected me, a sense of duty to this country, a sense of duty to the Constitution of the United States of America. I rise today Mr Speaker to call for the impeachment of the President of the United States of America for obstruction of justice. There is a belief in this country that no one is above the law. And that includes the President of the United States of America,” he said.

Green adds: ‘If the president is not above the law he should be charged by way of impeachment by the US House of Representatives. Our country is in a state of crisis. Every day Donald Trump remains president puts our democracy at risk. It’s time to take drastic, yet necessary action.”
