The crash occurred during the peak trekking season

As they were preparing to land in Nepal’s Mount Everest region, two helicopters have collided.

Officials said that the collision on Tuesday has killed at least one person and injured two others.

Authorities have confirmed than an Indian tourist was killed, while a New Zealander was rescued.

According to Bhupendra Thapa, a Solukhumbhu district administration officer, the tourist from India killed in the crash was 47 years old.

The passenger from New Zealand was injured and was being transported to the capital, Kathmandu, for treatment.

Meanwhile, the Nepali pilot who sustained injuries was treated locally.

Officials haven’t yet given information on how many people were on the two helicopters.

The helicopters crashed at Pheriche village, which is at 4,200 meters (13,780 feet) altitude.

The crash occurred during the peak trekking season in Nepal’s Solukhumbu district.

Before the weather improved Sunday and thousands of trekkers were able to move around, heavy snow had covered the route.

On Everest, helicopters are the only way to bring down trekkers and guides who become sick or exhausted in the cold and high altitude, as there are no roads.
