News host was having absolutely none of Nigel Farage’s claims on Monday night

Nigel Farage… He’s never not at it.

Irish current affairs show Claire Byrne Live took to the air on Monday night and was joined by former leader of UKIP turned television broadcaster Nigel Farage to talk about what the Brexit he fought for has done to Britain and Northern Ireland.

Of course, Farage was pontificating that Ireland should leave the EU – similar to how the UK did – and then had the temerity to question why Irish nationalists fought so hard for independence from Britain.

“Why don’t you ask yourselves in Dublin a question?” Farage said.

“Why did you fight the British? Why did Irish nationalists fight the British for 500 years? 500 very often bloody and difficult years until the 1920s? What was the point of it if you’re now governed by Europe?”

At this point, Byrne interjected and said she was going to show people “just how much you [Farage] know about the history and culture” of Ireland.

A cameo clip was played which saw Farage sign-off with a Republican slogan in a paid-for birthday message sent to an Irish man.

“I hope you have a great birthday… Now, it’s a bit early in the day so all I’ve got actually is coffee but I hope you enjoy a few pints with the lads tonight. Up the Ra!” Farage says in the greeting, before taking a sip of his coffee.

Byrne followed up by saying: “Don’t try and lecture the Irish people about the culture and history and precarious nature of peace on this island.

“You haven’t got a clue.”
