The bullfighter was left in a ‘serious’ condition
Footage has captured the shocking moment a matador in Spain was gored in the rectum and thrown in the air during a bullfight.
Alejandro Conquero was reportedly in a ‘serious’ condition after sustaining injuries during the event in Cenicientos, Madrid.
On site doctors diagnosed the 28-year-old with “a goring in the posterior perianal region, which dissects the rectum through the coccyx and could affect the external sphincter of the anus,” according to Spanish media.
He was airlifted to the Rey Juan Carlos de Mostoles hospital.
In footage shared online, Conquero can be seen taunting the bull with a pink and yellow cape.
But as the bull gets closer and closer, the matador is eventually thrown in the air by the animal, who then charges at him whilst he’s on the ground.
One of the bull’s horns gores Conquero between the legs, before tossing him in the air like a ragdoll.
Eventually, other matadors enter the arena to distract the bull and Conquero is able to escape, as horrified spectators watch on.
The animal was the third to have entered the ring at the annual Prieto de la Cal event, according to Spanish newspaper Andalucia Informacion.
Bullfighting is still legal in Spain and remains popular in large parts of the country. However, some cities such as have outlawed the practice.
According to Humane Society International, roughly 250,000 bulls are killed in bullfights every year.
