The straw that broke the camel’s back

The British public has been left outraged as Greggs once again increases the price of their iconic sausage roll by 5p.

The Greggs sausage roll is a staple of British culture, an icon if you will that has cemented its place on the pedestal of Britishness along with Wallace and Gromit, bus replacement services and the rain.

However, the popular bakery has started to test the resolve of some of its most loyal customers of recent with price hikes hitting customers hard.

The long tube of pig enrobed in pastry has long been seen as quality at a cheap price, but with this latest increase the £1.30 increase is becoming too much for some to swallow.

People had plenty to say on social media as one person posted to X: “Britain is finished. ‘The price of a Greggs’ sausage roll has shot up by a staggering 30 percent since 2022, when it was priced at just £1.'”

Meanwhile another person wrote: “Greggs with a VERY sneaky post Christmas and pre New Year price rise I noticed today.”

The last Greggs price increase come six months ago in July 2024, with the cost incrementally going up by 5p in regular intervals since 2021.

In 2016 a sausage roll cost only 85p from the popular bakery.

How inflation has taken its toll.
