A British holidaymaker has reportedly died whilst onboard a Jet2 plane from Spain to the UK.

The Mirror reported Monday that the incident took place around midday Friday as the plane prepared to take off from the Reus Airport on Spain’s Costa Dorada.

The death involved a 61-year-old man, according to local reports.

The plane had been due to fly back to the East Midlands Airport, but the pilot put the flight on hold after the tourist was said to have fallen ill.

The airline is said to have radioed for medical assistance after the passenger, who has not been named, lost consciousness.

Despite emergency services racing to the scene, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The plane is said to have departed around seven hours after it was meant to, around 11.10am.

The Mirror reported that a post-mortem has taken place, but the results are yet to be made public.

One local report linked the death to possible heart failure, but police have not yet made any official comment.

It is not clear if the deceased was travelling alone or was with family or friends.
