Brexit supporters wake up at 6am to swap EU flags for Union Jacks in Parliament Square

The Flag Wars have begun, the end is nigh

A rogue group of Brexiteers woke up at 6 am this morning to replace all the European Union flags along Parliament Square with 34 Union Jacks, opposite where the television cameras typically line up.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. That sounds like a completely pointless endeavour. And guess what, it was, as a group of Remain supporters turned up soon after at about 7 30am to start hanging up their own EU flags around the Union Jacks. So now we have both sets, just like we did before.

We literally have people hanging up flags against one another in some kind of eternal flag-off. This is what Brexit has come to. This is what it has done to us. This country is doomed I tell you. Doomed.

Parliament Square typically had a slightly higher ratio of EU flags following the People’s Vote march. That is until the notorious flag bandits struck

Speaking to the Metro, David Ireland, who instigated the Union Jack flag-hanging, said:

“People turn on the TV and see this entire wall covered in EU flags, some people want to be in the EU but there are also some people who don’t want to be in the EU, so we’ve come along and done our flags.

‘What the Remain voters do is shun all the Leave campaigners into the irrelevant middle ground and dominate the TV space. The narrative was this is the EU zone, we own this, but it seemed a little bit one-sided.”

Ireland, a 41-year-old man, also confirmed that he wouldn’t be coming back on Friday because “I’ve got a job, I can’t do this all the time like they do.”

Friday marks the date the UK was expected to leave the European Union. We are no closer to leaving the EU. It is unclear whether just resolving to hang up as many flags as possible will help the Brexit process but at this point, anything is possible.
