She reportedly called the class 'f****** lame and annoying'

A 23-year-old woman allegedly managed to walk into her former high school, pose as a substitute teacher and cause chaos in a classroom before telling police she did it because she was bored.

Amy Jones has been charged following the incident at Rufus King International High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on 24 September.

She faces one count of impersonating a public employee and five counts of exposing a child to harmful descriptions.

Authorities allege Jones spent a week watching the school before carrying out the stunt. As a former pupil, she was reportedly able to get inside by blending in with students and making her way past security.

The situation escalated once the actual teacher left the classroom. Jones allegedly began separating students according to race and gender, used racial slurs and other insults, and made explicit remarks while playing loud rap music.

She also reportedly told the class she was not concerned about going to prison.

A student said Jones called one pupil “fat boy” and told two white students they were “the type to start school shootings”.

According to Fox6 News Milwaukee, she also asked students whether they had a vape or marijuana, while complaining that the class was “so f****** lame and annoying”.

Students eventually alerted staff, bringing the situation to the attention of principal Doreen Badillo. Jones was then escorted from the building.

When questioned by police, she allegedly said she had done it because she “was bored”, adding that she “hates kids” and “just wanted to f*** around.”

The school has launched its own review of the incident

The school later acknowledged that its usual checks for substitute teachers had not been properly followed.

Principal Doreen Badillo addressed the incident in a message to the school community, saying the office “did not follow proper district protocol in validating the individual as a substitute teacher”.

A second update was sent to parents and staff on 5 October, clarifying that Jones had been recognised by members of staff as a former pupil and was never actually employed as a substitute teacher.

The school also confirmed that Milwaukee Police Department school resource officers were involved on the day, while the district’s Title IX coordinator was notified.

Alongside any criminal investigation, the district said it would carry out its own review of what happened.

“We will continue to take all appropriate action to ensure that Rufus King International High School remains a safe and welcoming place for our students and staff,” Badillo said.

Her lawyers have said Jones has bipolar disorder and was experiencing problems with her medication on the day of the alleged incident.

Jones is due to appear for a preliminary court hearing on 20 October. According to The Independent, she could face up to 21 years in prison if convicted.
