Team GB claim first medal of Beijing 2022

On the penultimate day of the Games, GB has its first medal

Team GB has its first medal of the Winter Olympics but their wait for a gold continues after the men’s curling team lost to Sweden in the final on Saturday morning.

In a nervy match that went to an extra end, Bruce Mouat’s rink fell to a 5-4 defeat to the Swedes and had to settle for a silver medal.

It would have been a first men’s curling gold for GB since the first ever Winter Olympics in 1924.

Had the Brits claimed gold in the final, it would have set up the opportunity for Team GB to win two gold medals at a Winter Olympics for the first time ever, ahead of the women’s team playing their final on the last day of the Games.

In the very early hours of Sunday morning (around 1am) Eve Muirhead’s team will play in their final against Japan, as they look to claim a first gold medal since 2002.

They represent the final realistic chance for Team GB to come away from Beijing 2022 with a gold medal.
