Andy Murray’s trolling of Donald Trump has gone down a treat

Game, set, match

Andy Murray had the greatest response to Donald Trump’s claims about TIME magazine on Friday night.

The President of the United States of America took to Twitter, as usual, to announce that he’d turned down an approach from TIME who, according to Trump, would only confirm him as their Person of the Year if he agreed to an exclusive interview and photoshoot with the publication.

TIME promptly responded to Trump’s tweet to deny his assertion that they based their Person of the Year award on an agreement to an interview.

Trump was named Person of the Year in 2016 after coming out on top in last year’s presidential election and the 71-year-old has previously claimed (incorrectly) that he has featured on more TIME covers than anyone else in history. That honour belongs to Richard Nixon.

And while it’s probably not the best use of his time for the leader of the free world to be debating with a magazine over a photo shoot, it has prompted a frankly hilarious tweet from Scottish tennis star Andy Murray.

The former world number one has mocked Trump by jokingly claiming to have found himself in a similar position when it came to this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year accolade.

Hats off, Andy. This was a good ‘un.
