America has the highest Covid-19 death toll in the world

Donald Trump has announced that the US is set to wind down its Covid-19 task force, despite an apparent growing rate of infection and a death toll of over 72,000 in the United States..

Speaking in Arizona on Tuesday, the US President discussed his plans for continuing to deal with the deadly virus.

He said: “Mike Pence and the task force have done a great job. But we’re now looking at a little bit of a different form and that form is safety and opening and we’ll have a different group probably set up for that.”

Trump made the comments visiting a factory that is producing medical masks. Many were quick to point out that Trump himself did not wear a mask during his visit.

The US coronavirus death toll climbed by 2,333 yesterday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

More than 72,000 people in the United States have died from Covid-19, the highest death toll of any one country in the world.

When asked whether lifting restrictions could lead to a second wave of the virus, Trump admitted that this could be a possibility.

However, he has also taken to Twitter to voice his excitement at the prospect of America beginning to reopen.
