Depp has travelled to Spain for a film festival
Amber Heard has reportedly responded when asked about the fact her ex-husband Johnny Depp is travelling to Spain, where she currently lives.
It’s been more than two years since the climax of the pairs long and bitter legal dispute, sparked a 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which Heard said she had been a victim of physical and sexual abuse.
The couple had married in 2015 before divorcing in 2017.
Whilst she didn’t mention Depp by name, he believed the article implied he had abused Heard, and he subsequently sued her for defamation. Heard countersued the Pirates of the Caribbean star, accusing him of fronting a “smear campaign” against her.
In June 2022, a Virginia jury ruled in Depp’s favour and Heard was ordered to pay Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. The latter amount was was later reduced to $350,000 in keeping with Virginia law.
After several appeals, in December, Heard agreed to pay Depp $1 million (£823K), to bring the dispute to an end. Depp later decided to donate the money to charity.
Depp, meanwhile, was ordered to pay Heard $2 million after she filed a countersuit accusing him of defamation.
In the years following the conclusion of the trial, Heard left the US and moved to Spain with her three-year-old daughter.
But this week, Depp has travelled to the country to showcase his latest project, Modi, at a film festival in San Sebastian.
Heard was asked about her former husband’s upcoming visit to Spain, according to Hola! magazine.
She reportedly responded: “I’m living here in Madrid, I love Spain.
“I’m very lucky to be here, and regarding my past, I don’t feel like thinking or talking about it, because I’m happy and in peace.”
Heard is said to be happy with her life in Spain, where she is “focused on raising her daughter,” a source told People in 2022.
There were also reports she had changed her name.
Meanwhile, Depp has relocated to London in the years following the trial, to get away from Hollywood.
