All the places with ‘danger to life’ and snow warnings in the UK as Storm Chandra hits

The Met Office has issued a number of warnings

The nation has endured a battering in recent weeks, from cold snaps to Storm Goretti, it seems like a while since we've had some settled weather.

This is unlikely to change anytime soon, as Storm Chandra makes landfall in the UK.

The Met Office has issued warnings covering around half the country, from rain and wind warnings in the south, to snow warnings in the north.

Meanwhile, two amber 'danger to life' warnings have been issued.

While snow is "unlikely" to accumulate at low-levels, there remains a chance for 2-5cm in places above 300m, 5-10cm above 400m, and 10-20cm above 500, the Met Office said.

The areas hit with snow warning between midnight and 5pm today are as follows:

• East Midlands: Derbyshire
• North East England: Durham, Northumberland
• North West England: Cheshire East, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire
• South West Scotland: Dumfries and Galloway, East Lothian, Edinburgh, Midlothian Council, Scottish Borders, West Lothian
• Strathclyde: East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire
• West Midlands: Staffordshire
• Yorkshire and Humber: North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire 

Meanwhile these are the areas affected between 6am and 11:59pm today:

• Central, Tayside and Fife: Angus, Perth and Kinross, Stirling
• Grampian: Aberdeenshire, Moray
• Highlands and Eilean Siar: Highland
• Strathclyde: Argyll and Bute

The two amber danger to life warnings have been issued for:

• South West England - Rain: Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Plymouth, Somerset, Torbay
• Northern Ireland - Wind: County Antrim, County Down, County Londonderry

As per the Met Office, an amber warning for rain entails:

• Homes and businesses are likely to be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
• Fast flowing or deep floodwater is likely, causing danger to life
• Delays and some cancellations to train and bus services are likely
• Spray and flooding probably leading to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
• A good chance some communities will be cut off by flooded roads
• Power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses likely
• Landslides are possible in prone locations

Meanwhile, an amber warning for wind means:

• Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected
• Some roads and bridges likely to close
• There is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
• Probably some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
• Flying debris is likely and could lead to Injuries or danger to life
• Injuries and danger to life is likely from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties
