Al Pacino, 84, has opened up about what it's been like to have a child in his eighties, saying it's been "fun."
Last year, the acting legend became a father for the fourth time, at the age of 83, when his then-girlfriend Noor Alfallah gave birth to a baby boy, Roman.
The Godfather and Scarface star has now written an autobiography, which he hopes will allow his son to have the opportunity to learn about his life and storied career.
Speaking to the BBC about the memoir, titled Sonny Boy, Pacino said: “I want to be around for this child. And I hope I am.
“I hope I stay healthy, and he knows who his dad is, of course.”
Pacino and Alfallah, 30, split up just three months after Roman's birth, but they are co-parenting their son, who is now 16 months old.
Pacino explained that most of his day-to-day contact with his son is online, saying that he "does text me from time to time."
He continued: “Everything he does is real. Everything he does is interesting to me. So, we talk. I play the harmonica with him on the other video thing, and we have made this kind of contact. So, it’s fun.”
Following their split last year, Alfallah filed legal docs in Los Angeles asking for full physical custody of Roman, but said she wanted Pacino to have "reasonable visitation" and joint legal custody.
Along with Roman, Pacino is the father to three other children with two women.
He shares 23-year-old twins Olivia Pacino and Anton James Pacino with Beverly D’Angelo; and Julie Pacino, 34, with Jan Tarrant.
Pacino told The New Yorker in 2014 that he did not want to be like his father, who left his family when he was two-years-old.
“Having children has helped a lot. I consciously knew that I didn’t want to be like my dad. I wanted to be there. I have three children. I’m responsible to them. I’m a part of their life,” he said, adding that when he’s not around them it’s “upsetting to me and to them.”
“So that’s part of the gestalt And I get a lot from it. It takes you out of yourself.”
