The aircraft was grounded

The incident happened in the late hours of Tuesday (local time) in what would have been the early hours of Wednesday in the UK.

It was reported that a "minor electrical issue" led to the cabin lights going dark without explanation.

The modified Boeing 747-200B, designated VC-25, returned to Joint Base Andrews following the issue.

This led to the iconic aircraft being grounded and the president and his team taking two smaller planes to head to the gathering of world leaders in Davos.

The minor incident delayed the President by around three hours and, as per latest tracking information, his aircraft is currently south of Ireland and off the west coast of the UK.

All this comes ahead of the World Economic Forum in Davos where the world's leaders are set to meet to discuss a number of matters.

One of these issues is, of course, that of Greenland, which Trump has been chasing after for some time now.

Since returning to office at the start of 2025, the US president has been pressing for the acquisition of the icy territory.

Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that the US “needs” Greenland for “national security”. This is the main narrative behind the threats that, by acquiring the territory, the US could expand military operations in the name of fending off Russia and China.

Many people believe the real reason Trump wants Greenland is for its resources which include rare earth minerals, uranium, iron, zinc, lead, gold, copper, and potentially oil.

In response to all this, last week, Europe sent a small envoy of military personnel to Greenland in line with Danish plans for a “larger and more permanent” NATO presence on the island.

The group consisted of 13 Germans, 15 French mountain specialists, one navy officer from the Netherlands, two military liaison officers from Finland, three officers from Sweden and two from Norway.

The UK sent one British officer to join a reconnaissance group.
