Aaron Taylor Johnson responds to ‘bizarre’ concerns about his marriage

He may be set to take on one of the most iconic roles in cinema, but the actor’s controversial relationship has somewhat dampened the casting news.

Johnson, best known for his roles in Kick-Ass, Bullet Train and, of course, Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging, has been married to Sam Taylor Johnson since 2012.

The pair’s relationship has often come under fire because of their extreme age gap.

The actor’s wife is 24 years his senior, but the controversy surrounding their relationship goes further than that.

Many fans have criticised the director for dating Johnson when he was so young.

The pair, who met on the set of Nowhere Boy, started dating after the film wrapped. Johnson was only 18 at the time and his now-wife was 42.

They’ve faced severe criticism since they first started dating and it hasn’t stalled in the years following.

However, Aaron Taylor Johnson is trying to ignore the harsh comments.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the actor said he’s just trying to live a somewhat normal life.

He told the publication that he doesn’t understand the backlash surrounding his marriage.

“What you gotta realize is that what most people were doing in their twenties, I was doing when I was 13,” he explained.

“I’m just trying to juggle my family and my work”

The Tenet actor said the “public derision” over his marriage is bizarre.

Speaking about the claims he rushed into marriage, Johnson said: “You’re doing something too quickly for someone else? I don’t understand that. What speed are you supposed to enjoy life at? It’s bizarre to me.”

“People see and perceive this thing around my career, and that’s OK. But I’m just trying to juggle my family and my work. I’m doing normal life; dentist appointments,” he continued.

“Career doesn’t necessarily take a back seat, but it takes a different thought behind the choices that you make. But you also discover characters you’re drawn to because of that, you’re not just some 20-year-old anymore. You unlock some secret thing,” Johnson said.

The British actor and Sam Taylor Johnson renewed their vows after 10 years of marriage in 2022.

The couple are parents to two daughters - Romy Hero and Wylda Rae.

Sam also has two older daughters from a previous marriage.
