1 in 10 Brits have admitted that they prefer doomscrolling over sex.
Yikes...
New research by OnePlus has found that we waste one weekend a month doomscrolling; that's the equivalent of 96 minutes per day.
The findings further showed that Brits are stuck in a loop of topics such as negative news (32%), reality TV drama (32%), and conspiracy theories (26%).
Over 40% of scrollers choose to do so on the toilet, with nearly half spending time with friends and family.
Some have even indulged in the online negative swirls whilst at a wedding (12%) or school event (13%).
As a nation, each month we spend 67.4 million hours scrolling!
28% of doomscrollers become tired or drained, with over 20% feeling anxious or overwhelmed.
Half of them said it reduced their productivity, while a further 52% said they wished they had more hours in the day.
OnePlus has launched their Brain Rot Blaster to help fight the doomscroll.
The web-game aims to tackle doomscrolling by self-destructing after one game.
It features characters inspired by the most negative digital demons found in the research, including negative world news, reality TV, celebrity drama, and more.
Celina Shi, Chief Marketing Officer of OnePlus Europe said: “It’s easy to fall into mindless scrolling - at home, at work, even around loved ones. With this campaign, we’re encouraging people to take back control of their screen time and use their phones with more purpose. Why lose hours to the scroll, when you could be creating something that inspires you instead?”
She added: “Brain Rot Blaster takes on the creativity-crushing, productivity-sapping scroll, challenging users to rethink their habits and up their game. The OnePlus Nord 5 captures this spirit. Built to empower, not distract, it reflects our Never Settle spirit to unlock creativity without limits.”
