It’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas

In a UK first, Magic Radio has announced that it will switch its playlist throughout December to 100% Christmas music.

Rebranding to a Christmas only station, the National music station will play nothing but non-stop Christmas songs from this Friday – the eve of the very first day of the festive advent calendar Christmas count-down – until Christmas Day itself.

Launching at 9am November 30th on the Ronan Keating and Harriet Scott Magic Breakfast Show, it’s the first UK radio station to transform its playlist from Take That, Madonna, Queen and Abba into a Christmas station dedicated to a festive hits.

Listeners can expect to hear a wide selection of much-loved festive pop hits from the last 50 years – with an emphasis on 80s and 90s classics such WHAM! “Last Christmas”, The Pogue’s “Fairytale of New York”, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want Christmas”, Elton John’s “Step into Christmas” and Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime”.

“We’ve had this under wraps for three months,” said Ronan Keating of the transformation. “I am so excited that the news is out there. I can’t wait to kick Christmas off this Friday at 9am with our first Christmas song voted for by our listeners at magic.co.uk.”

Friday’s launch follows the station’s Magic of Christmas event that took place last weekend at the London Palladium, which saw Rick Astley, Boyzone, Gabrielle and Katherine Jenkins perform some of your favourite seasonal songs.
