Taylor Swift drags Damon Albarn after he claims she ‘doesn’t write her own songs’

The Blur and Gorillaz singer has since apologised, well sort of…

Taylor Swift has called out Damon Albarn after he claimed the pop-country star doesn’t write her own songs.

In an interview with Los Angeles Times, the 90s Britpop singer was questioned about whether modern musicians rely on sound and attitude.

“Name me someone who’s not,” he responded.

It was then put to Albarn that, while Swift may not be to his taste, she is an “excellent songwriter”.

“She doesn’t write her own songs,” he said.

When Times reporter Mikael Wood then put it to Albarn that Swift at least co-writes her music, the musician continued: “That doesn’t count. I know what co-writing is. Co-writing is very different to writing.

“I’m not hating on anybody, I’m just saying there’s a big difference between a songwriter and a songwriter who co-writes. Doesn’t mean that the outcome can’t be really great.”

Taylor was swift in her reply, writing on Twitter on Monday night: “I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really fucked up to try and discredit my writing. WOW.”

An hour later, Albarn tried to apologise, well, sort of. He blamed his remarks on “clickbait”.

“I totally agree with you,” Albarn wrote in reply.

“I had a conversation about songwriting and sadly it was reduced to clickbait.

“I apologise unreservedly and unconditionally. The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand. – Damon.”

Swift’s tweet gained over 500,000 likes and nearly 100,000 retweets overnight.

She is yet to reply to Albarn’s tweet.
