The snub came despite many of her male contemporaries being given solo slots on the night. Reports claim that in protest the New Zealand-born singer
refused to perform all together when she was offered the opportunity to lend her talents to the Tom Petty tribute in a group performance alongside Chris Stapleton and Emmylou Harris.
The 21-year-old had been nominated for the Album Of The Year at the 60
th annual edition of the awards, for her second studio album
Melodrama. Also nominated were Childish Gambino, JAY-Z, Kendrick Lamar, and Bruno Mars - who picked up the award on the night.

She attended the show with a a quote from New York artist Jenny Holzer stitched onto the back of her dress.
