Foals confirm new album and live dates for next year

Will Lavin

The band’s fifth album will be released in 2019

News about the follow-up to the Foals’ 2015 album What Went Down was revealed by Music Week after the industry website confirmed a new worldwide deal between the band and Transgressive Publishing and Warner/Chappell Music.

The new agreement covers both the band’s back catalogue and future releases, “including their fifth album, which is due out next year.”

“They’re without doubt one of the most forward-thinking and constantly innovating rock bands to have emerged in the past ten years,” said Warner/Chappell Music UK MD Mike Smith. “They never fail to release thrilling music and it is a huge privilege for Warner/Chappell to be able to work with their remarkable catalogue and future recordings.”

While no further details about the album, such as a release date or title, have been confirmed , the band did announce at the end of 2017 that they were returning to the studio, with frontman Yannis Philippakis confirming they had begun writing new songs in October.

Speaking to NME, he said: “We’re in the marinating stage of thinking about getting onto the next record. We have a couple of bits written but it’s in the very early stages. We’re in the conception stage, we’re not pregnant yet, we’re just trying to have the kid.”

With the album now confirmed for a 2019 release, a tour seems certain – as of yet, though, the band have just confirmed a smattering of festival appearances for the 2019 season.

With the album news now out there, a UK tour seems inevitable. However for now, Foals fans will need to travel to Mexico or Germany to see the band play a few festival dates in 2019:

Sat Mar 16th – Vive Latino, Mexico City
Fri June 7th – Rock Am Ring, Nürberg, Germany
Sun June 9th – Rock Im Park, Nuremberg, Germany
