Childish Gambino debuted a new song last night on first date of “final” tour

Childish Gambino last night kicked off his “final” tour in his home city of Atlanta

Taking place at the Infinite Energy Centre just outside the city limits of Duluth, Georgia, Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover, on the first night of what he called the “final Gambino tour”, debuted a new song, much to the excitement of the sold out crowd.

While we were on hand to capture it all, we’re not entirely sure what the new record is called because all he said when introducing it was: “This is some new shit” we’re going to have a guess that it’s called either “Shine Brighter In The Dark” or “Turn All Those Lights Out”.

Starting off very minimal, the song opens up sounding like the beginning of a movie score – think Terminator 2 or Rambo. After that the atmospheric backdrop plays host to some slick Gambino vocals and builds to a hook that hears him sing:

“Turn all the lights out, you shine brighter in the dark/ You shine brighter in the dark/ You shine brighter in the dark/ Turn all the lights out, you shine brighter in the dark/ You shine brighter in the dark/ You shine brighter in the dark.”

The track goes on for almost six and a half minutes and when performed live was supported with minimal lighting – which makes sense considering the song’s lyrics.

Towards the end of the song Glover was then transported upwards above crowd level on an elevated platform like something straight out of Star Wars, a movie franchise he starred in earlier this year as the suave outlaw Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

He also opened the show with new song “Algorhythm” and later performed the live debut of new song “All Night”, initially sent out to everyone who purchased a ticket to the show.

Not only did we see him perform the aforementioned new songs but we were also gifted the opportunity to watch him perform “This Is America”… IN AMERICA!

Childish Gambino will be performing a one-off show at London’s The O2 on November 4th.
