Why? Well, it turns out that beards can actually blur the lines between masculinity and femininity. A jawline that can cut glass indicates high levels of testosterone rendering a man all sorts of casual when it came to putting a ring on it.
In short, beards can mask a very masculine face which points to maturity, ergo, a better long-term suitor or they can balance out a perceived feminine face that could be construed as "not manly enough" for a life partner.
So next time your furry friend is unfurling his face forest, try to spot if it's a decoy for his exceptionally angular jaw or if he is simply masking his more sensitive side.
