We've all been there, cosy on a long-haul flight after the stress of an airport.

You settle down with your complimentary neck pillow and pull down the little blind on the porthole. It's nap-time. That is until the flight attendant wakes you up and lets the harsh light in by yanking the blind back up. WHY? You ask. Well,  Tech Insider  actually went and asked a flight attendant why, and the answer makes a lot of sense. "If there's an emergency, we have to be able to look out the window to assess outside conditions. If there is debris, fire, or water blocking the window, we won't use that exit and will direct people elsewhere." "It may seem like a small thing, but in an emergency, every second counts. You don't want to have to fiddle with a window shade when you're trying to safely evacuate a plane in 90 seconds." There we have it. It's for your own safety.
