How can you know if you no longer just drink casually?

Realising you’re no longer just a casual drinker can come with warning signs. One key sign, in particular, is especially concerning and may indicate that your drinking has gone beyond 'casual'.

The number of young people moving away from alcohol is on the rise, and the sober population is growing, even in a country like Britain where drinking is a deeply ingrained part of the culture.

Social media health trends clearly play a role. When many people want to get in shape, one of the first steps they take is to reduce or quit alcohol altogether.

While it is widely known that excessive drinking can harm your health, hearing from former alcoholics about the benefits of quitting can be truly eye-opening.

One of the most common improvements reported by former drinkers is simply getting a better night’s sleep.

Corey Warren has shared his experiences as a drinker and previously revealed the three traits that distinguish an alcoholic from a regular drinker.

In a new TikTok video, he explains that one particular sign of alcoholism is something many people actually experience, making it more common than most realise.

Blacking out, according to him, is a clear warning and a sign that you are building a tolerance.

"If you've ever blacked out, you probably think it's because you drank too much. I used to think that blacking out was just a part of drinking, part of having fun, a part of the story I'd tell the next day.

"What I didn't realise is that blacking out is not what happens when I drink too much one time. Blacking out is what happens when my tolerance is so high that I drink past my body's limit and I don't even realise it. And that's not normal, that's not fun. That's my brain shutting down”, he said on his new TikTok video.

According to Corey, even blacking out one time means that you no longer have a healthy relationship with booze.

Blacking out means not remembering what happened while you were intoxicated. These are gaps in memory that occur when someone drinks so much that alcohol prevents memories from moving from short-term to long-term storage.

It might sound kind of wild not to remember your drinking adventures, but it’s actually pretty dangerous.
