Just you, sunshine, koala bears and a vast array of giant insects

If you can ignore the various wild creatures roaming Australia, then you’re in luck – as you can soon apply for £10 return flights down under.

Hoping to revitalise the job market and boost tourism, the South Australian Tourism Commission has envisioned a scheme to solve its problems and simultaneously get you a banging tan.

Unfortunately, there are only 200 spots up for grab.

Should applications be accepted, Brits between the ages of 18 and 35 can purchase flights out of Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh or Dublin to Adelaide, courtesy of Qatar Airways. Flights run up to September 30 with the application process opening next month.

“South Australia is welcoming the return of working holiday makers – it’s a real win-win for young people eager to travel and work abroad, and for our local tourism industry,” said South Australian Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison, according to ITV.

“Our tourism operators have missed having international visitors on their tours and experiences and booking up accommodation, and they’ve also missed the backpacker workforce and the vibrancy they bring.”

Bettison also detailed job opportunities such as working in bars, restaurants, wineries and hotels. If you want something a little more Bear Grylls, then you can also work at outback stations and farms.

She added: “We look forward to welcoming back young people from the UK and Ireland, and encourage them to make the most of these £10 fares.”

How do I apply?

All applications must have a valid Australian Working Holiday Visa or have a visa application currently being processed. If that’s all set, then you need to register with Trailfinders.

There are some expenditure besides that super cheap flight cost. Arrivals will need to purchase an Adelaide Arrival Pack, which starts at £171. Depending on the package, travellers will get a three or six-night hostel stay, work and travel information pack, job search assistance and three-month access to an in-country work and travel support line.

You can also book days out at popular Australian attractions like Kangeroo Island or the Australian outback for an additional cost.
