The internet reacts to Richard Osman’s 2016 World Cup of Crisps final

After a nail-biting few days of straight knockout match-ups, the finalists of Richard Osman’s World Cup of Crisps 2016 have been decided.

48 snacks competed in the prestigious tournament organised on Twitter by the Pointless host, but we’re now down to just two.

Pickled Onion Monster Munch overcame Cheese and Onion Walkers in what we like to think was billed as the semi-final of bad breath, while Wotsits emerged victorious from their cheesy derby with Quavers. The latter clash had remained neck-and-neck for much of the voting.

The #wcocr2016 is raising money for the charity Child’s i Foundation, which helps find families for orphans in need. Osman announced the much-anticipated final on his Twitter this afternoon.

Controversially, there was no salt and vinegar crisps in either of the semi-finals, so Richard ran a special poll to crown the best crisp of that flavour.

Much of the Twitter reaction regarding the penultimate fixtures seemed to oppose the way voting had materialised…

And people were keen to publicly pledge their allegiance to one of the finalists…
