Tributes have poured in for legendary Irish singer Sinead O’Connor after she passed away at the age of 56.

The Dublin native had a career spanning over three decades, with 10 studio albums and her single Nothing Compares 2 U was named the number one world single in 1990 by the Billboard Music Awards.

Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has led tributes, saying her talent was beyond compare.

Among those to pay tribute were Dara O’briain and Adam Shanley, both of whom expressed their sadness at the news on Twitter.

Journalist Owen Jones has tweeted that the news has hit him like a truck:

While Conor McGregor said he had “lost a friend.”

O’ Connor’s brutal response to a Piers Morgan request that she appear on his Uncensored show has also been doing the rounds on social media.

The Nothing Compares To You singer was asked to appear on Piers’ new talk show shortly after the death of her son Shane O’ Connor, but rejected the TV host’s invitation.

Sinead shared a screenshot of the email she sent to Piers in response to the invitation, with the caption: “Piers Morgan’s been trying to get me on his breakfast show since Shaney died.

“Here’s what I emailed him in response: Hopefully you’ll chortle your tea out your nose.”
