People are convinced Will Smith had no idea he and Jada Pinkett Smith were separated

They're convinced

In an interview with Hoda Kotb on October 13, Pinkett Smith explained how herself and Will are more or less divorced without the papers.

Kotb asked: "Why not just amicably divorce? Why not just do that." To which Pinkett Smith replied: "We don't want to. We love our family and we love each other. You know, it's more of a life partnership. Now, ten years from now, who knows?"

Kotb then asked if the pair have a deal in place if either party decides to date someone else.

Pinkett Smith answered: "Well, you know, right now what we're focused on, which has been so beautiful, is deep healing - because of everything that's transpired. Now, what happens after that, I don't know yet."

Pinkett Smith also confirmed the news of her separation to People while promoting her upcoming memoir.

She told the publication: “We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like.”

She added: “By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.

“I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through … whatever. “I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”

However despite her confession of a separation, many people are pondering online if Will Smith knew this at all.

Following on from Jada's interviews, one person wrote: "Will is probably finding out just like us." Another said: "I feel like this is her story, but Will is living a different one."

A third said: "I wonder if Will knows."

Will himself has responded to the news saying that it "kind of woke up him".
