Norwegian man unveils Super Mario rug after 6 years’ work

JOE

We used to worry that video games took up a lot of our time, until we heard about 31-year-old Norwegian Kjetil Nordin.

The Nintendo fan, who now lives in Denmark, spent more than six years recreating a Super Mario screenshot in rug form.

To put things in perspective, Nordin was in his mid-20s when he started the project, and completed two university degrees during the intervening period.

He’s also managed to win the Norwegian team skydiving championship not once but twice during breaks from
putting together his masterpiece, which measures 2.2 by 1.8 metres.

Nordin estimates it took him 800 hours of crocheting, plus more time researching colours for the 100+ balls of yarn he used.

Now all that’s left for him to do is find a way of displaying the thing on his wall. Oh, and to find a new distraction.
