The mother of one of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims has spoken of her horror after seeing Halloween costumes of the serial killer on sale.

Ever since it was released on Netflix last month, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has become one of the most-talked about television series of the year.

However, with the show’s surging popularity and Halloween approaching, some fans have already begun fashioning Jeffrey Dahmer-inspired costumes. This is despite pleas to not dress up as the serial killer or romanticise him following the popularity of the Netflix drama.

Shirley, the mother of Tony Hughes, who was a deaf, non-vocal victim among the 17 young men murdered by Dahmer, told TMZ that it hurts her to see online stores profiting from her son’s deaths.

She specifically targeted eBay for selling Dahmer-inspired costumes and believes ads should be removed from these pages or, at the very least, the profits should be given to the victims’ families.

Shirley is not the only relative of one of the victims who has criticised the show.

Tony Hughes is portrayed by deaf actor and former reality television star Rodney Burford in the series (Netflix)

The cousin of Dahmer victim Errol Lindsey, Eric Perry, tweeted: “So when they say they’re doing this ‘with respect to the victims’ or ‘honoring the dignity of the families’, no one contacts them.

“My cousins wake up every few months at this point with a bunch of calls and messages and they know there’s another Dahmer show. It’s cruel.”

Meanwhile, one mum in the UK has spoken of her anger after she was banned from a Halloween for planning to dress up her baby girl as Dahmer.

Also known as the ‘Milwaukee Cannibal’ or the ‘Milwaukee Monster’, Dahmer killed and dismembered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991.

He would lure his victims back to his home by promising to pay them to pose nude for photographs

He then drugged and strangled them and generally mutilated and occasionally cannibalised their bodies.

Dahmer was arrested in July 22, 1991 and entered a plea of guilty but insane in 15 of the 17 murders he confessed to.

He was convicted of murdering 15 men and boys between 1978 and 1991 and sentenced to serve 15 consecutive life sentences in February 1992.
