Mia Khalifa responds after facing backlash for giving controversial marriage advice

Joseph Loftus

“If you’re unhappy get the f*** out of there.”

Former adult star turned social media personality, Mia Khalifa, caused quite the stir online a few weeks back when she dished out some rather controversial marriage advice.

The Lebanese-American, who was once the most watched performer on a certain website, took to TikTok recently to share her take on marriage and divorce.

Khalifa herself married her high school sweetheart back in 2011 but the couple decided to go their separate ways. Then Khalifa got married to professional chef, Robert Sandberg, but again, after a year, they decided to call it off.

For the third time in her life, Khalifa got engaged, but once again she had second thoughts and called it quits before the wedding day.

So controversial or not, I think it’s fair to say Khalifa has enough experience in marriage to have a decent enough understanding of what she’s talking about, however her recent comments caused a serious stir.

Taking to TikTok, Khalifa said: “Married at 18. Divorced at 21. Second marriage. Married at 25. Divorced at 28. Third engagement. Engaged at 29. Ended it at 30, but I kept the ring. I’m still keeping Tom Brady on his toes.

“We should not be afraid to leave these men. We are not stuck with these people. Marriage is not a sanctimonious thing. It is paperwork. It is a commitment you make to someone, but if you feel like you’re not getting anything from that commitment and you’re trying, you got to go. You got to go. You have to go.”

Khalifa continued: “I know it’s difficult to fill out paperwork, and to make appointments and to do all of these things, but this your f***ing life, you want to be stuck with someone?”

Khalifa’s post went viral extremely quick, dividing opinions across the world.

One person wrote: “Absolutely not. Marriage is absolutely sanctimonious.” A second commented: “What or who is the common denominator in all these failed marriages?”

Another said: “This sounds like how to be successful at divorce.” A fourth wrote: “I think those words come from a place of hurt. Marriage is not being ‘stuck with someone’, it’s sharing love, sharing support, sharing loyalty.”

Now, Khalifa has responded herself, and she hasn’t changed her mind one aota.

Taking to TikTok again, Khalifa explained that she had received a number of disgusting threats following her initial statement, but added: “I’m failing to see what’s wrong in telling young women – who get married young – that if they are in relationships that are unhealthy and toxic, and make them unhappy, that just because they made a ‘commitment,’ they are not stuck in these relationships.”

She added that, in her opinion, most of the people who had an issue with Khalifa’s first video were ‘men’ whose relationships were staying together only because of ‘a commitment’ to stay together which is aided by religion and by family.

Khalifa concluded: “If you’re unhappy get the f*** out of there.”
