Greenwood was dropped of all charges on Thursday

The Manchester United squad don’t want Mason Greenwood reintroduced to the changing room over fears that it could derail their progress.

Greenwood had all charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control against him dropped on Thursday but still faces an internal club investigation as to whether he should be reintegrated into Erik ten Hag’s squad, as reported by the The Sun.

United released a statement confirming that the 21-year-old would have to continue to remain away while they ‘conduct their own process before determining next steps’.

One source told the outlet: “The players are open to him returning to the team but the scrutiny could be massively distracting.

“The dressing room is the happiest it has been for ages and no one wants to rock the boat.”

Under Ten Hag, United have seen a real upturn in form that has got them challenging for a Champions League spot and have only lost one competitive game since November.

Ten Hag refused to comment on the situation after his side’s 2-1 win against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

“I can’t say anything about it,” he said. “I refer to the statement of the club and at this moment I can’t add anything.”

Other reports have claimed that Greenwood is willing to resurrect his career abroad if United come to the conclusion that he shouldn’t be brought back into the first team fold and is even willing to move to China.

“He said he would be happy to go and play in China as long as that meant he was getting paid well and was playing,” a source added.

“His view may have softened over the last few months, but he was not happy at all.”

Greenwood is still registered with the Premier League on a long list of Under-21 players – having also been included for the first part of the campaign, when he was on bail pending police investigations.
