There’s a way to save a fortune on group train tickets, but hardly anyone knows about it

Time to book that weekend away with your mates

A sneaky offer, promising 33 per cent group savings on virtually all UK rail travel, has been lurking on the National Rail website this whole time.

Because the ~ordinary promotion~ is hardly ever advertised, very few seem to know about it: we took a straw poll in the JOE office, and not one of us had heard of it. So we’re spreading the good word!

A nifty saving of 1/3 off off-peak tickets for groups of 3 or more people was right under our noses.

The only strict rule is that all members of the group must travel together for both the outward and return journeys.

Apparently the offer has been listed on National Rail’s website since May 2014. The group maximum is nine people.

Participating train companies include, but are not limited to: Abellio Greater Anglia; C2C; Chiltern Railways; Great Western Railway; Gatwick Express; Great Northern; London Midland; London Overground; ScotRail; South West Trains; Southeastern; Southern; Stagnated Express and Thameslink.

It’s cool, you can thank us later.
