Glasgow plumber axes £120 call-out charge for pensioners this winter

Other customers will also be getting discounted rates

A plumber in Glasgow is trying to do all he can to help people out if they’re heating or hot water goes this winter.

Grant Hollywood has decided to scrap his usual call-out charge of £120 for customers over the age of 65.

The 27-year-old, who has been running Hollywood plumbing service since 2019, wants to help Glasgow’s most vulnerable get through the treacherous winter months ahead, Glasgow Live reports.

Freezing temperatures increase the risk of pipes freezing and the boiler packing in, but Grant has advised people not to panic as he will be on hand to help out.

In a post on Facebook, he wrote: “With the temperature dropping so low and so close to Christmas anyone over the age of 65 years old please don’t panic if your boiler breaks down or you get a burst pipe or a frozen drain.

“Message or call me I won’t charge a call out charge no matter what time it is.”

The news that he is getting rid of his call-out fee for pensioners will come as a relief to many as the cost of living crisis continues to grip the UK.

It’s not just pensioners Grant wants to make life easier for though, as all other customers will get a discounted call-out fee of £80, and he will offer a 25 percent discount on labour costs.

The plumber from Kilmarnock, said: “Don’t panic or stress yourselves. Give me a phone and if I can’t make it to you then I’ll give you as much advice as I can over the phone to try and resolve an issue.

“Everybody is struggling at this time of the year. It’s coming up to Christmas and the last thing I want is for anybody to struggle.

“I like to make people happy and don’t want them to go without this winter. I want to help people and get them warm.

“This is my way of giving back to customers who have supported me and given their time and hard-earned money.”
