Four lads in jeans statue

Birmingham has gained a new landmark

The famous ‘Four Lads in Jeans’ are being honoured with a statue.

The awesome foursome shot to internet stardom in 2019 after posing, in jeans, outside an All Bar One, creating a picture that summed up an entire demographic.

For weeks they were the meme of the moment, and ended up being part of the famous sea shanty trend.

Now, they are set to be immortalised in statue form.

In a tweet teasing the creation, artist Tat Vision shared a picture of their sculpture of Kevin Rooney, Alex Lacey, Jamie Phillips, and Connor Humpage in their timeless poses.

The post read: “Nearly finished the Four lads in Jeans statue. Come and see it unveiled on Saturday outside @Allbarone Grand Central!”

The statue is made out of women’s mannequins, papier-mâché, and PVA glue, and is set to be unveiled on Saturday (August 26).

Speaking to Birmingham Live about the inspiration behind the statue, Tat Vision said: “The idea was inspired by the ‘Ronaldo statue’ and ‘Boulton, Watt and Murdoch’ near the library.

“I shipped the idea of doing it for the Commonwealth Games, but it was too late. Fortunately, I was put in contact with Birmingham Big Weekender and had the go-ahead from them. The statue will be there all weekend as part of an event.”

Explaining the creative process, the artist said: “It took me a few weeks, on-and-off, to make. I used four women’s mannequins, which I covered in tight-fitting ladies’ jeans and tops. The heads are made from papier-mâché, and all of it was painted to have a nice, shiny bronze effect.

“I’m happy with the way it looks, just the heads to attach. Hope they don’t fall off!”
