Football fan needs to be rescued by firefighters after seven hours asleep on the toilet

Tom Victor

Anyone who follows their football team up and down the country will have memories of that one game when they went too big too early.

That may have been the fate that befell one Barnsley fan during their game against Fleetwood Town, as he had to be helped out of the Yorkshire club’s ground by firefighters at 10.30pm.

And before you ask, yes, it was a 3:00 kick-off.

So, why was he still there several hours later? The answer’s simple – he fell asleep on the toilet.

“We had to get the ladder to get him down. He had no shoes on and had lost his mobile phone and his hat,” one member of the emergency services told the Sheffield Star.

According to reports, the fan claimed to have fallen asleep at half-time, and it was clearly a deep sleep as he missed the entire second half and wasn’t disturbed by thousands of fans leaving Barnsley’s Oakwell ground.

It says a lot about the entertainment on offer in Yorkshire, where a first half effort from Jamie Proctor gave the visitors all three points.

At least the sleepy fan didn’t miss any goals.
