Nintendo Direct confirms new Switch games

Nintendo has revealed details of its upcoming games for the Switch console - and this is everything you need to know.

The gaming brand confirmed the new releases during its Nintendo Direct live stream on Thursday, 27 March.

Pokémon Legends Z-A has officially been announced by Nintendo after much-anticipation, with a release date set for late 2025.

It will feature mega evolution, so Pokémon can level-up like never before, as gamers work their way up from Level Z to A.

Others includes No Sleep for Kaname Date which will be released on 25 July, RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army on 19 June and Shadow Labyrinth on 18 July.

There will also be Patapon 1+2 Replay on 11 July, Story of Season Grand Bazaar on 27 August and the handdrawn The Eternal Life of Goldman in winter 2025.

While Metroid Prime 4 Beyond was also announced by Nintendo for 2025, but with no official release date yet.

For Disney fans there's a Disney Villains game featuring Cruella, Ursula, Gaston and Yzma called Cursed Cafe, which launch today (27 March).

They've also confirmed virtual game cards, so when you purchase a digital version of the game you can play that title across consoles similar to how it works with physical game cards. This will update from April.

The games are confirmed to be for the Nintendo Switch but will more than likely be compatible with the upcoming Switch 2.

Fans might have been hoping to hear more about the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 but that'll be taking place next week.

Nintendo has confirmed that more details about the Switch 2 console will be shared on 2 April at 2pm BST.

So far we've relied on rumours and 'leaks' including faster Wi-Fi and backwards compatibility.

Below you can find out everything we know about the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order details so far below.

When does Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order start?

No, the console is not yet available to officially pre-order, but some retailers have launched Nintendo Switch pages.

This includes UK retailer Currys, which has created a page for Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders in the UK. You can see the page here.

There is not a lot on the page but it does have a box to fill in your details. Currys says it will then email you information when pre orders are open.

Currys says: “All we know is that it’ll be out at some point this year. Nintendo hasn’t completely left us hanging though. That’s because they’ve said that their next Nintendo Direct presentation will air on 2 April 2025 (2pm UK time) and offer a closer look at Nintendo Switch 2. So, we hope they’ll reveal the launch date in that video too.”

Gamers can also register their interest in pre orders on the Shopto website and pay just 1p to secure their spot. However, there is a catch as Shopto also says pre orders are not guaranteed once the console is released.

Can I still get the original Switch?

If you’re not too bothered about the latest model and are hoping that the prices of the original Nintendo Switch and the OLED model are going to drop following the new release then that’s also a possibility.

Currently the Nintendo Switch is priced at £240, which is about £33 cheaper than its launch price or the Sports Bundle version for £244, while the OLED is £265, which is just under £40 cheaper than its launch price.

They’ll both be ones to watch following the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 as you might be able to get some deals, including bundles featuring a game.
