Nintendo confirms key date for Switch 2 launch

Nintendo has finally revealed details about the Switch 2, including a key date for fans anticipating the release.

The gaming brand released a short trailer confirming the new console as well as a brand new Mario Kart game.

The trailer showed the new console with a sleek design including black controllers, with splashes of colour instead of the all red and blue on the original.

Although fans will have been hoping for a pre-order announcement, that’s still yet to be revealed by Nintendo.

But they have confirmed a key date – 2 April – which will see the airing of Nintendo Direct.

“Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 will air on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, offering a closer look at Nintendo Switch 2, the successor to Nintendo Switch releasing in 2025,” Nintendo said on its website.

“The broadcast time will be announced on this website and on our social media accounts at a later date.”

Nintendo will hold various fan events around the world in the days following its full reveal in the Nintendo Direct.

The locations include London, Amsterdam, New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Paris, Tokyo, Seoul and more across April and May.

How much will the Nintendo Switch 2 cost?

The original Nintendo Switch launched at £279.99, while the OLED edition started at £309.99, so it’s likely that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will be at a higher price mark than both of those.

This latest news comes from someone who supposedly works at French retailer Micromania, with the information shared by X/Twitter user Switch2Stock.

They claim that the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 will be €399, which thanks to inflation and the Switch’s huge popularity would make sense.

Other intel suggests that there will be 25 games ready to launch alongside the release, with games costing between €69 and €79 each.

 The employee also teased that there will be a limited edition bundle released, with an exclusive game that could be the much-anticipated Mario Kart 9.

When can I pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2?

There’s plenty of rumours that the Nintendo Switch 2 when the console will go on pre-order.

Now it is announced it’s likely that it will be available to pre-order from the likes of AmazonGAME and Currys.

The insider intel says that pre-orders are coming “really soon”, so keep an eye out as demand is expected to be high.

Can I still get the original Nintendo Switch?

If you’re not too bothered about the latest model and are hoping that the prices of the original Nintendo Switch and the OLED model are going to drop following the new release then that’s also a possibility.

Currently the Nintendo Switch is priced at £247, which is about £33 cheaper than its launch price, while the OLED is £270, which is just under £40 cheaper than its launch price.

They’ll both be ones to watch following the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 as you might be able to get some deals, including bundles featuring a game.
