New United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has invited the man he calls his mentor along to join the team at their Carrington training ground.

Alex Ferguson will be greeted by Solskjaer and staff at the training ground.

Ferguson is believed to have been consulted in the decision to bring in the Norwegian manager.

Solskjaer was appointed as caretaker manager until the end of the season, when a permanent replacement for Jose Mourinho is to be found. He is scheduled to return to Molde FK, the side in his homeland that he was managing prior to the appointment, when his tenure concludes.

The former striker played 235 games for Manchester United under Ferguson between 1996 and 2007, scoring 91 goals. He won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the Champions League while at Old Trafford.

He has won both his matches in charge of United so far, including an emphatic 5-1 victory over his old side Cardiff City.

After the game, Solskjaer said that "One of the things I talked about today is that a Manchester United team should never ever be outworked. Doesn't matter what team you play, you should run more than them and then your skills will give you a chance of winning again."

We think Sir Alex would agree.
