Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr quotes Jurgen Klopp after NBA playoff win

The most successful basketball coach in recent years has paid homage to Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool

You may not be keeping up to date with the NBA playoffs but on Wednesday night the reigning champions, the Golden State Warriors, earned a hard-fought 104-99 victory over the Houston Rockets in their Western Conference semi-finals match-up.

The Warriors now lead the series 3-2, knowing that one more win will see them return to the Western Conference finals for the fifth time in a row. If they do that, they’ll be one step closer to a fourth title since 2015 and becoming one of the greatest dynasties the sport has ever seen, right up there with Michael Jordan’s storied run with the Chicago Bulls throughout the 90s.

Understandably, their coach Steve Kerr – who won a championship in his very first season as coach of the team (to add to five titles earned as a player) and has been there ever since – was thrilled with the performance against the Rockets, who boast the likes of reigning MVP James Harden, Chris Paul and PJ Tucker in their ranks and were billed as the one team in the West that could come close to toppling the Warriors monopoly.

He was so thrilled, in fact, that he took a moment to pay homage to another manager at the top of their game in the form of Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp.

Kerr told the press room after the Warrior’s victory:

“I don’t know if you’re a soccer fan but Liverpool came out yesterday with one of the great wins in soccer history.

“After the match, their manager Jurgen Klopp said: ‘The young kids in Liverpool are probably asleep by now so I’m just going to go ahead and say it, but our boys are fucking giants.

“That’s what he said. And I know how he feels. I apologise to my mom, who is probably watching, but our guys are fucking giants. That was an unbelievable victory tonight.”
