After months of rumours, Greggs has announced that they are launching a vegan sausage roll. In an overly dramatic video that feels more like Interstellar than an advert for savory snacks, they unveiled the roll for all the world to see. It will cost £1. "Like many food retailers we have seen increasing demand for vegetarian and vegan products," said Roger Whiteside, chief executive at Greggs. "We have been trying to develop a vegan version of our famous sausage roll for some time now." "It has not been easy but our taste panel customers all love this one, so we have decided to launch it as our contribution to Veganuary." Last year, animal rights organisation PETA launched a signature for Greggs to launch an animal-product-free version of its iconic sausage roll, which garnered 20,000 signatures. Research from last year suggest that 3.5 million people consider themselves to be vegan - that's seven percent of the population.
