A cheese festival is coming to the UK next year and we Camembert to wait any longer

Cheesily the highlight of the year

Rich Cooper

Cheese is, and this is not an exaggeration, literally better than everything, including wealth, love and companionship.

True cheese aficionados know that, if pressed to choose between a good cheddar and their immediate family, they’d be helping them pack their bags and shoving them onto the boat: “Sorry Mum, but you know I can’t resist a baked Camembert!”

Well you don’t have to feel like you need to bid farewell to your loved ones in order to get your hands on some cheese; in fact, why not bring them along to Brighton’s Big Cheese Festival, taking place on Saturday March 3 at Brighton Racecourse.

“The event will feature a plethora of the finest international cheesemakers and mongers showcasing their amazing cheeses,” the festival website promises.

“Wander your way around our food court and sample a selection of hot delicacies, all with one thing in common…You’ve guessed it, CHEESE.

“From Halloumi Fries to Mozzarella Sticks, Raclette or Fondue, our vendors will be on hand to turn the finest fromage into melted gooey delights.”

If that doesn’t sound like the best thing ever… just stop reading now. There’s nothing more for you here. Be on your way.

Though cheese is obviously the order of the day, there’s a lot more on offer at the Big Cheese Festival, with craft beers, liquor and wine all available for the drinking, plus comedy, live music and DJs.

All the Early Bird tickets have sold out (blimey, there’s a good five months until the thing kicks off) but you can get tickets for £22.

Will we see you there? Probably not, because we’ll be up to our eyes in cheese and it’ll make it difficult to see anyone.
