Vegan bodybuilder talks us through his daily diet plan

"Get that carb fear out of your head!"

Darragh Murphy

We hope you like fruit.

Jon Venus is a very successful vegan bodybuilder and social media influencer who champions the importance of recognising that plant-based protein is much better for your health than whey protein.

Based in Barcelona, Jon trains every day without using meat as a source of protein and regularly faces questions about the amount of fruit in his diet but he always hastens to point out that the sugar in fruit does not have the same effect on your body as products which contain refined sugar.

Jon said: “Some of you may be thinking that this is way too much fruit, way too many carbs, way too much sugar but you have to remember that there’s a huge difference between refined sugar or processed foods which include refined sugar and fruits or other complex carbohydrates because they’re attached to fibre and they digest completely differently.

“They will not spike your insulin the same way that table sugar does so please get that fruit and carb fear out of your head because it’s a load of nonsense.

“Don’t listen to these people who do flexible dieting – comparing apples to Snickers bars and saying they’re the same thing.

“Do your own research but please remember that we are humans and we are designed to eat real food. And real food will never be bad for your health.”

In the below video, Jon talks us through his daily meal plan which ultimately tallies up to more than 2700 calories.
