He may be a vision of peak physical fitness but Cristiano Ronaldo wants to shed some weight.

The Real Madrid superstar is following a new diet in an attempt to continue playing at the top level for as long as possible.

Spanish newspaper ABC, as quoted by Sport, claim that Ronaldo made the decision to alter his eating habits when he turned 30, with the knowledge that footballers’ years are numbered once they hit the big 3-0.

According to the report, Ronaldo has already lost two kilos over the past year due to his new fruit-heavy diet.

The 31-year-old wants to gradually shed muscle mass in a bid to improve his speed so that his body is able to keep up with the demands expected of it.

It’s also claimed that the shredded Portuguese has had to ease off on his rigorous personal training regime which had been originally set up to build muscle.

Ronaldo currently weighs 78 kgs and is hoping to continue losing a kilo each year until he retires, according to the report.
